Integration of the virtues of Honesty, Truthfulness and Integrity in the story of Jacob

Essay ko sa Theo ulit.

One thing that has always been present in this world is competition. It is evident at our home, in school, and in our society. We see this competition in relationships as a desire to be acknowledged and to be rewarded. It is visible at work or in the things we do everyday as an appetite for happiness and convenience. In the world, this competition is fueled by the prevailing corporate demand for perfection. This competition sometimes leads us to what we call jealousy and other sins.

In Jacob’s story, we can conclude that how he acquired the birthright was downright sinful and dishonest. He got hold of it by doing what God hated the most that we do, sin. God has no favorites. Although we can say that Jacob is chosen by God to lead His people, he is not excused or exempted by the consequences of his actions. That sin is later repeated unto him. By fate, his deceit to his father was boomeranged to him by Laban, deceiving him as well. In this story, we can therefore say that what we give is what we get. In this case, Jacob gave something bad, so bad things had also happened to him. Gaining something from sin is clearly not honorable.

But after some years, Jacob gained back his honor by asking forgiveness to his long heartbroken brother. This shows that Jacob is aware that he has done something bad and is now empathetic to his dear brother. He now chose honesty over dishonesty, good over bad, so in turn; his brother forgave him without question.

Just by acknowledging your mistakes and regretting that you have done it, is leading you to the right path to honor and salvation. We should not let sin enter our lives. Being engulfed only by goodness and honesty, truthfulness, integrity, is pleasing to the eyes of man…. and of God’s.
